GreenMob project holds its first consortium meeting in Viladecans

Mobility and digitalization are two key areas in which Viladecans is working to achieve its mission of becoming an emission-neutral city by 2030 and of negative emissions by 2050. To accomplish this Mission, Viladecans participates in GreenMob, a one-year project financed by the EIT Urban Mobility initiative that aims to address the challenges of urban mobility by promoting sustainable transport options, reducing pollution and providing a certified CO2 emissions calculator. On 23 May, GreenMob members had the opportunity to hold their first consortium meeting in Viladecans.

The day began with participants setting off for a walking tour accompanied by Juli Massó, the Mobility Manager of the Viladecans City Council. Along the tour, GreenMob members were able to visit some of the strategic areas for mobility in our city (the intermodal point of the train station, the pedestrian area of Olof Palme Avenue, the bike lane of Passeig de la Marin or the C245  road, among others).

After the city tour, Jordi Mazon, the Deputy Mayor for Mobility, Cleaning and Waste Collection, and for the Promotion of Science and Scientific Dissemination, welcomed the participants and made an introductory presentation of Viladecans and its strategic framework.
Afterwards, Juli Massó presented the main projects being carried out in the municipality to promote sustainable urban mobility (such as the Low Emission Zone, the actions to enhance walking routes or the city’s strategy to promote the use of bicycle as a sustainable means of transport). Then Patricia Moreno, the Director of Digital Transformation of the City Council, and Vicente Fernandez, Digital Transformation Officer, explained the most relevant projects on digital transformation and data governance that Viladecans is developing to become a ‘smart city’. Some of these projects are Viladecans & Tu app, the city’s control centre and the Digital Twin, developed together with Barcelona Supercomputing Centre.

In the second part of the meeting, GreenMob partners had the opportunity to share the project’s progress. Clémence Castell (Instant Systems) presented a mock-up of the GreenMoV app that is being developed in coordination with Viladecans team and that will integrate a route planner with real-time information on travel options, different means of transport... and a certified calculator of CO2 emission savings, provided by Wecity.
In the afternoon, the rest of the partners presented updates on the work they are carrying out and the session concluded with the next steps of the project. It was a very enriching day in which, for the first time, the GreenMob partners had the opportunity to share their learning and impressions of the project in person. In Viladecans, we are looking forward to start the pilot of the GreenMoV app.

The GreenMob project in Viladecans has a budget of 28.538 EUR, 67% of which is financed by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. The EIT Urban Mobility initiative acts to accelerate positive change in mobility to make urban spaces more liveable. The emphasis of the Innovation Programme 2023-2025 is to advance commercially viable solutions, services and products that support these objectives.
