Handmade Education

School teacher specialising in educational innovation and founder and director of Actividades Infantil (Children’s Activities) Olalla Haro is one of our #AmVassadors in Viladecans.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Large rolls of felt in different colours, buttons, thread and sewing machines are the working material in Olalla’s workshop in Viladecans. With them, she makes sensory books and games to stimulate the senses of children age one to five.

Olalla’s business got its start with her personal blog. In the little spare time she had, as she is a mother of three children, she shared ideas to teach the little ones and play materials based on the educational methodologies of international benchmarks like Montessori and Waldorf.

Both education systems emphasise a holistic approach to chilidren’s education: spiritual, mental, physical and psychological.

TWO AND A HALF MILLION FOLLOWERS ON HER BLOG

Olalla’s position as an official teacher has allowed her to take a sabatical to set up Actividades Infantil, a firm that billed 40,000 euros last year.

Although a large part of its turnover is reinvested to purchase materials for new products, growing demand has led her to think about hiring her first employee.

Olalla’s blog has been receiving more and more visitors, and now has two and a half million followers. Families are her main customers of her products but schools and stores have already contacted her, too.

I greatly enjoy sharing ideas to educate in a playful way and writing articles about tools to bring parents & children together
