Last steps to make Vilawatt a reality

The Viladecans City Council has begun the process for energy marketers to be part of the public-private-citizen consortium Vilawatt. That is why an informational session held last week caught the interest of 12 energy companies. Representatives of Electra Caldense Energía, Factor Energía, Agrienergia, Holaluz, Fenie Energía, Estabanell Energía, Chint Energy and Integra Energía came to Viladecans, while Aura Energía, Cox Energy, Axpo Iberia and Nexus Energía followed the session on streaming. Those who want to become suppliers of Viladecans’s new energy company have to prove that their electrical energy comes from renewable sources and that they promote efficiency, energy savings, and self-consumption. The specifications that will be used to choose the Vilawatt marketer are expected to be published in April.

Podium, a Vilawatt building

PODIUM, A VILAWATT BUILDING

Podium Viladecans has an annual energy consumption of 2.3 million kWh, the equivalent of about 230 homes. Although this amount may seem very high, the fact is that if it had not been given an “A” energy rating, this consumption could have been five times higher. Podium is an efficient building thanks to the installation of systems that minimize its energy consumption.

Solar panels are the first step towards achieving this energy efficiency. With this system, water more easily reaches the temperature needed for showers. However, to guarantee this, the solar panels are complemented by an efficient boiler system. During the warmest months, the building is air-conditioned by a machine that ensures energy savings. Equipped with a magnetic levitation compressor, this system allows each kW of heat consumed to produce five kW of cold. Finally, to guarantee the comfort of the indoor pool, the Podium dehumidifier renovates the air at the same time that it collects heat from the air to transfer it back into the water.

Podium Viladecans will be one of the municipal facilities that will contract the services of the Vilawatt energy company.
