This is the Summer Festival

When it comes to fun, we know what we’re doing. If you don’t agree, just ask the La Cubana theatre group which, during the opening ceremony of the Fiesta Mayor (town festival) in 1989, helped us achieve nothing less than the world record for blowing up balloons. And we haven’t stopped having fun ever since!

A SPACE TO ENJOY YOURSELF

The Fiesta Mayor de Verano is celebrated around the 8th of September, day of the Virgen de Sales, patron saint of Viladecans. For a few days, the city is transformed into a place where you can enjoy all kinds of activities – with the right attitude and respect for others of course.

The festival takes over areas such as the Plaça de la Vila, Parc del Torrent Ballester, Parc de la Marina, Atrium Viladecans and even La Murtra beach – a great place to enjoy traditional ‘habanera’ Cuban music.

The spectacles which draw the biggest crowds and make the Fiesta Mayor so renowned are the pyromusical show in the Parc de la Marina; the Viladecans giants; displays by the Castellers (human towers); the Correfoc (firework run) by the Colla de Diablos (Devil’s Association), and of course the very special “Mamullada” (Mammoth Parade) to cool off in the summer heat.

Still need a reason to visit us?

How about this? Different stages featuring concerts from international artists and our talented young people; ‘habaneras’ with hot rum on the beach; orchestral dances; theatre and DJ sessions. For the little ones, there’s the Fiesta Mayor Xica (Little Festival).

But do you know why there’s mammoth loose on our streets!

The mammoth is the symbol of one of the working committees of the Associations Coordinator, an umbrella organisation for citizen groups. Their mission is to promote the traditional culture that runs in our blood and defines us.

But why a mammoth? Well, it was chosen as our mascot when archaeologists discovered mammoth fossils at Can Guardiola. Millions of years ago these animals walked the earth where our city now stands. They are part of our history, just like our traditional culture, that’s why we like to remember them!
