Ermita Sant Ramon

History of the hermitage of Sant Ramon

Don’t miss the view from the top! The Sierra de Montbaig rises to 295 metres above the Baix Llobregat. Sitting atop the summit, the outline of the Sant Ramon hermitage is recognisable from much of the surrounding area

But first, a bit of history: did you know the Sant Ramon hermitage was built between 1885 and 1887 by Josep Estruch i Comella as a memorial to his parents? Now isn’t that a nice way to remember them?

You can reach the hermitage by following either the Can Menut or La Verdera trails from Viladecans. Three km along and 300 metres up, through extensive groves of white pine and holm oak, brings you to a fantastic viewpoint from which you can enjoy all the beauty of the Llobregat Delta.

Picnic areas line the route so you can stop for a bite and get your breath back. Once at the top, the hermitage has a bar where you can get a coffee or a beer while enjoying the spectacular views over the Garraf, the Ordal range, the Llobregat Delta and even the hills of Collserola. The hermitage also houses the Centro de Interpretación del Paisaje (Landscape Interpretative Centre) whose rooms offer detailed information about different aspects of the ecosystem.

THINGS TO DO

The hermitage is the end point of the Anillo Verde (Green Circuit), an 18 km trail suitable for outdoor sports so you can enjoy the landscape and get to know the history of the area. If you like hiking or mountain biking, you’ll love Viladecans.

Did you know this is a great place to watch migrating birds? The best season for sightings is in September and October when it’s easy to spot falcons, kites, eagles and storks on their migratory routes. Spectacular!
